MINISTER FRED GUMO APPOINTED ACTING MINISTER FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT - MAY 11, 2012.
The Minister for Regional Development Authorities Mr. Fred Gumo has been appointed as the acting Minister for Local Government. The Westlands MP replaces Musalia Mudavadi, who resigned from the post. "After consultations with Prime Minister Raila Odinga, His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki has today appointed Hon Fred Gumo as the acting Minister for Local Government," a brief statement from State House said.

MANGO FACTORY TO BE ESTABLISHED IN HOLA. MAY 12, 2012
A Mango processing Factory will be set up in Hola County to provide market outlet for over 8,000 farmers. The project implemented by Coast Development Authority is expected to start operation by mid May taking advantage of the mango production season in the area. Over 132,000 MT of mangoes is produced in the area every year.

Mr. David Kimosop has been appointed the new Managing Director and Secretary to the board of Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) for a period of three years with effect from 22nd April, 2012.

THE TANA DELTA IRRIGATION PROJECT (TDIP) PROJECT - RICE
The Tana Delta Irrigation Project (TDIP) Project in Gamba is expected to produce 2,500 tons of rice this season compared to 1,500 previously, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development Authorities, Eng Carey Orege has said. Speaking at the launching of the rice harvesting season at TDIP, the Permanent Secretary said the project had realized a profit of 106 million shillings from a production cost of 57 million.
The Ministry of Regional Development Authorities scooped the award for the best theme
interpreter at the World Food Day celebrations held in Njoro. The Ministry emerged as a top performer in this category for showcasing value addition projects
being implemented by three Regional Development Authorities. About ten Ministries addressing Agriculture and Rural development and various nongovernmental organizations participated in the one day event. 
BEST PRACTICES BY REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITIES.
Regional Development Authorities should focus on research and feasibility studies to identify viable investment opportunities in their areas of jurisdiction and realign development plans to value addition and agri - processing to provide ready markets for small scale producers instead of competing with them, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development Eng. Carey Orege has said.

The ministry has embarked on restructuring of the Regional Development Authorities to provide them with effective and efficient systems and structures that will ensure optimal performance of the Authorities as critical instruments for Regional Development in Kenya.

This Strategic Plan covers the period 2008-2012 and is aimed at guiding the Ministry of Regional Development Authorities in the delivery of its mandate that includes policy guidance, capacity building, and oversight in the management and support to Regional Development Authorities (RDAs). The Strategic Plan anchors its strategic thrust on Kenya Vision 2030 and Medium Term Plan and directs the ministry to focus on integrated regional development initiatives and up-scaling of RDAs’ ongoing programmes.It is through this plan that the ministry will rally concerted efforts from all
